On the way to becoming the leading API provider for connecting EUDI-wallets

One year after our spin-off from Commerzbank AG, we look back on our journey in the field of digital identities and the European wallet for digital identities.

At Lissi, we have been working on the topic of digital identities for more than six years by now. We are proud to say that we have made a significant contribution to the development of the eIDAS 2.0 regulation and the European wallets for digital identities (EUDI-wallets).

We would like to mention in particular:

  • The management of the IDunion consortium and the associated involvement in the development of key protocols for EUDI-wallets as well as the first worldwide testing of the technical standards that will soon become an integral part of all wallets (OpenID4VC)
  • Our participation in the European Commission's Large Scale Pilots (European Wallet Consortium and Potential)
  • The development of a first German EUDI-wallet prototype as part of the SprinD Funke Wallet Challenge

One year ago, we spun Lissi GmbH out of Commerzbank. Even before the spin-off, the regulatory developments in the context of eIDAS regulation had prompted many financial institutions and public sector organisations to enter into cooperation agreements with us. However, our work as a group unit of Commerzbank (in Neosfer GmbH) was increasingly seen as a disadvantage, as there were fears that we were too dependent on the bank.

The spin-off was therefore the logical step to open up new business potential in the financial and public sector.

After one year, we can say that it was the right decision. Lissi GmbH has developed into one of the leading companies in the field of backend systems for ID-wallets in Europe and has already acquired customers in numerous European countries. With our EUDI-wallet Connector, we have developed a product that enables organisations throughout Europe to easily integrate EUDI-wallets into their existing IT processes via APIs.

The first member states will issue EUDI-wallets for productive use cases as early as next year. Organisations can use these wallets to identify their end users at very low cost. In addition to these so-called ‘KYC processes’, organisations can issue digital credentials such as registration data directly to their customers' EUDI-wallets.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners, customers and especially our employees for their trust and cooperation.

Together, we are making great strides towards an open ecosystem for digital identities in Europe and I look forward to accompanying organisations on this journey. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like me to support you.
